I love being on the water. :)

It’s the second day in the jungle and we’re really not going to do that much since we’re leaving about 1 for our next stay, but most of us decided to go tubing down the river, a different river mind you, from the one we went on yesterday. This river was clear warm and just about perfect in every way. There were little rapids, areas where you could just coast and places if you wanted to stand up, you could. I don’t want to over do the sentiment, but it really was just about a perfect morning.

After lunch we loaded up in a… I’m not really sure what they are called except that they are referred to by the fact that there are two rows of seats in the back. So anyway, we get in one of these vehicles, it’s pickup truck with benches and a roof in the back. It is lots of fun because you’re out in the open, you feel secure, and you’ve got wind keeping you cool. So we are taken to a port about 3 hours away, and I should say I had the worst seat out of the group; in the middle with no leg room. By the time we got to our destination I was in a pretty foul mood. Most of the ride all I could think about was the nearly perfect tubing experience down the river not less than a few hours ago. I mentioned to someone that I was daydreaming about the tubing to another person on the tour and he said he was doing the same thing.

We got on a long-tail boat and headed out about 4 for about a1 hour ride to a famous island. I’ll have to get the name of the island later because all I can remember is that it was in a James Bond movie a long time ago— I guess it was the super villain’s lair.  I don’t think that I need to mention this, but I really love the water and the fact that I got to take a boat trip to a remote island is really a good thing.

After a little sightseeing on the island we headed back in the direction that we came to a small village that is partly over the water. The way it’s described is that it is a Muslim fishing village. I don’t know, but the fact that they add the type of religion to the name just doesn’t sound right to me. It’s a Christian city… you know what I mean? I digress. The village was partly built over water and partly connected to an island. Oh, I didn’t mention that the islands are very picturesque, and I hope the photos will show how beautiful the place was. We were staying over the water in what is best described as bamboo huts over the water (on stilts), and honestly another one of the best times so far. Later on, at about 10 pm I looked outside and the water had gone out so we were just over mud, kind of stunk too.

The time at the village was mostly spent walking around on a kind of tour, I say “kind of” because it was very informal, and just a walk through the buildings.
